About Us

The MedShow™ is a production of 2 Under Entertainment, a new media content development company, based in Columbus, Ohio.

What is the MedShow Portal?
The MedShow portal is an online medical education experience for students and the medical community to learn about the opportunities available in medical school and the field of medicine, and to support their professional growth throughout their lifetime as a physician.

Why is 2UE Producing the MedShow Portal?
Over the next 10 to 20 years, enormous shortages are predicted in the field of medicine. Currently almost 800,000 doctors practice medicine in the U.S. But, over 250,000 - one in three of these doctors - are over age 55 and are likely to retire during the next 20 years, just when the baby boomer generation begins to turn 70.

Medical associations such as the American Medical Association (AMA), the Council of Graduate Medical Education (CGME), the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), The American College of Physicians (ACP), the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the American Geriatrics Society (AMGS), the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and many, many others have announced physician shortage concerns.

The shortages will, if not addressed, have a profound effect on the quality of medical care in the US. The country needs to train 3,000 to 10,000 more physicians a year - up from the current 25,000 - to meet the growing medical needs of an aging, wealthy nation, a study from the New England Journal of Medicine stated. Because it takes 10 years to train a doctor, the nation will have a shortage of 85,000 to 200,000 doctors in 2020 unless action is taken soon.

How Can the MedShow Portal Help Fulfill Physician Shortages?
Appealing to the Gen Y / Millennial age group (those aged 13 - 25) to consider careers in medicine, is the issue at hand. This demographic has the ability to have the biggest impact on the quality of future healthcare. This is the generation that will take care of the baby boomers, who are aging and are in need of medical care. Accepting that this demographic is different than previous demographic clusters and effectively communicating with them is the key to attracting them to careers in medicine.

The MedShow portal is an internet content distribution channel that will be used to promote and communicate the exciting and fulfilling life that a physician can experience. Central to the portal will be the use of social media, as well as exclusive and unique entertainment and educational content, produced by 2UE.

Who is the MedShow's Audience?
College-bound (junior high and high school), college students, pre-med students, medical students, residents, fellows, medical educators, physicians and patients will comprise the audience.

Who is Affiliated with the MedShow Portal?
The portal is being piloted with the Ohio State University Medical Center and College of Medicine, and the Department of Family Medicine. Over the course of the next year, 2UE and OSUMC hope to solicit the remaining 125 medical colleges in the US to participate with the MedShow.

In addition to Universities, medical associations are being recruited to endorse the portal. To date, the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy of Family Physicians have offered their endorsement, with many more in the negotiation stages. Corporate sponsorships are being pursued by 2UE for the MedShow portal. Corporate sponsorships are being targeted at organizations that "touch" a medical student or physician throughout their studies and professional practice. Currently, sponsorships are being sought from financial service, insurance, pharmaceutical, medical device, medical publishers, medical consumable and medical technology companies. Should you have interest in sponsorship, please contact Steve Schmidt, Executive Director of Business Development.

Who Benefits from the MedShow Portal?
Obviously society as a whole will benefit from the efforts of the MedShow portal initiative. By gaining more young adults to commit to a career as a physician, the MedShow portal can do its part to help lessen the predicted shortages.

Short-term, the students who choose to pursue a career as a primary-care physician will benefit from medical scholarships that will be created by 2UE and the MedShow. As part of our mission and commitment to this cause, 2UE will be giving 10% of all MedShow gross corporate sponsorship and advertising revenue to participating medical colleges to create endowments or scholarships for medical students choosing to become family physicians. This philanthropic effort benefits not only students, but also the Universities who participate and support the MedShow portal, by lessening the financial burden incurred by their medical students and supporting their medical student recruiting efforts.
