Physician's Corner
Dr. Hagop Mekhijian
The Ohio State University Medical CenterChief Medical Officer "Help your brother's boat across, and your own will reach the shore." - Hindu Proverb "If you light a lamp for somebody it will also brighten your path." - Buddhist Saying Although each of these quotations has very different origins, they carry the same message: by working together we can accomplish our goals. In today's environment, we must work as a team as we focus on the well-being of our patients and their families. As personalized health care continues to become a reality at the Medical Center, we are increasingly finding that no one discipline, no single department or division, no individual, really, can alone care for the whole patient. Each medical discipline or ancillary service, every research effort and all educational pursuits are more interdependent than at any other time in the history of medicine. In a similar vein, the support services upon which we and our patients depend - including, but not limited to, the technological improvements in diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and the vast advances in information services - require that each of us, as we go about our daily routine, be aware of how what we do or not do can help others reach their goals. After all, we are all working toward the same overarching goal: to improve people's lives through personalized health care. We can accomplish this without doubt by valuing the importance and contribution of every segment of our Medical Center and accepting a sense of responsibility in helping others in the achievement of our common goals. |
